JUST TRAIN CIC
Strength, rebuilt.
Founded by Michael Baah
I started Just Train CIC because I saw a gap that shouldn't exist. As a cancer exercise rehabilitation specialist, I watched people finish treatment, the hardest fight of their lives and then get handed nothing. No structured support, no guidance on how to rebuild strength safely, often no idea where to even start. Just Train CIC exists to close that gap: qualified, clinically-informed exercise rehabilitation for people living with and recovering from cancer, delivered with the dignity and expertise every one of them deserves.

Just Train CIC runs small, supervised exercise groups for people living with and recovering from cancer, before, during, and after treatment. No experience needed. No judgement. Just people at every stage of recovery, moving at their own pace, together.
Sessions are referral-led and free at the point of access, delivered in partnership with NHS trusts and private clinics.
You don't need to be fit to start. You just need to start.
-
Small groups, never rushed, never competitive
-
Every session led by a qualified cancer exercise rehabilitation specialist
-
Sessions adapted individually, for fatigue, treatment side effects, mobility, or confidence
-
A space to talk to others who understand what you're going through, not just a workout
If you're not sure whether you're "well enough" to come, that's exactly why we're here. Ask your care team for a referral, or contact us directly and we'll talk it through.
What to expect
-
A landmark 2025 clinical trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine (the CHALLENGE trial) found that structured exercise after chemotherapy for colon cancer lowered the risk of recurrence or death by 28%, with 80.3% of patients disease-free at 5 years compared to 73.9% without it.
-
Similar benefit has been shown in breast cancer: the OptiTrain trial, presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress in 2024, found that women who combined high-intensity exercise with resistance training during chemotherapy had substantially better long-term survival outcomes than those receiving usual care alone.
-
Across cancer types, the evidence is consistent: structured, supervised exercise during and after treatment measurably improves outcomes — not just quality of life, but survival itself.
Why exercise matters after a cancer diagnosis
Every participant is screened before joining, in coordination with their oncology team, to identify any contraindications, including treatment-related cardiotoxicity, lymphoedema risk, neuropathy, or mobility restriction. Sessions are supervised by staff trained specifically in exercise oncology, working within a formal referral pathway alongside NHS and private oncology teams.
Clinical governance
For many of the people who come to Just Train CIC, this isn't just exercise, it's the first place since diagnosis where they're seen as more than their treatment plan. Small groups. No pressure. People at every stage of recovery, moving at their own pace, alongside others who understand exactly what they're going through.
IMPACT

Michael and the Just Train CIC team have delivered over 10,000 hours of cancer exercise rehabilitation, supporting more than 2,000 patients across Colchester, Chelmsford & Epping, a proven, running programme, not a pilot.
-
Reach: thousands of patients across three towns, built on referral partnerships with NHS and private oncology teams
-
Consistency: thousands of hours of supervised, clinically-informed sessions delivered without a gap in service
-
A working model, already proven: delivery at this scale shows a programme that works in practice, and is ready to grow with the right support
The scale behind that
Sending a family to Disney World.
This year, Just Train CIC is raising funds to send one child currently undergoing cancer treatment and their family to Disney World. Not as a distraction from treatment, but as a few days where they get to just be a child and a family again: excitement, wonder and a break from hospitals and appointments.
How the family is chosen
To keep this fair and protect every family's privacy, the child is nominated by their treating oncology team, not chosen publicly or through applications. This ensures the family who needs it most is selected with the dignity and confidentiality they deserve.

THIS YEAR'S GOAL

Structured, qualified exercise support for cancer patients typically disappears the moment treatment ends, right when people need connection and confidence most, alongside recovery. Just Train CIC exists to close that gap for the people directly affected and as a secondary benefit, every patient supported here is one fewer demand on an already-stretched NHS system.
Why it matters
